The COVID-19 Initiative

I dig complex problems. To tackle the COVID-19 pandemic, I needed to be as wily and creative as the virus. Below is a multi-platform initiative to empower everyone to do their part in beating the pandemic.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been a momentous event in our lifetimes – but it’s not unprecedented.

This timely exhibit shows how past disease outbreaks are informing our response to this one. It explores how vaccines were created in record time and how we can be certain of their safety and effectiveness. It highlights how the pandemic changed our lives and how our persevering spirit guided us through.

The exhibit opened in March 2021 and was updated in April 2022.

We Can Beat the Pandemic. Together.

In Building Exhibit

Working with a small team at the Museum of Science and Industry, I developed the exhibit content and the story arc, while also doing some of the graphic design and image sourcing and acquisition.

We Can Beat the Pandemic. Together.

Digital Exhibit

In a cross-divisional collaboration with another person, we converted our in-building exhibit to a digital version using Prezi. The digital exhibit was freely accessible in both English and Spanish, and found great traction within the Chicago Public School system as a teaching tool.

COVID-19 Social Media Campaign

In line with the goal of the COVID-19 initiative to cultivate vaccine receptivity, this 4-part social media series answers tough questions about the vaccines. We created posts in both English and Spanish.

I conceived of the 4-part series, wrote the questions and answers, and collaborated with a graphic designer to create the icons and color scheme.

COVID-19 Conversations

In an effort to provide additional assets and resources to MSI’s guests and local teachers, we created a several short videos exploring the COVID-19 pandemic.

I was interviewed as the science expert on the history of pandemics and on the biology of the COVID-19 virus.
